One PC equals a tonne of CO2 a year

Recent research by Fujitsu Siemens Corporation and Computacenter reveals that:

A typical PC left on for 24 hours a day for 220 days of the year is responsible for up to a tonne of CO2 over a typical 3-year lifecycle.

Switching off a PC overnight and at weekends can save energy and up to £53 in electricity costs per PC, every year

Computacenter’s Green IT Advisory Service is based on a series of practical steps that can help organisations ‘go green’ and cut costs:

For starters, an energy efficiency audit of a companies current IT environment

An IT refresh - to make sure that organisations understand the environmental lifecycle implications of a typical desktop, e.g. environmental cost of NOT switching your PC off at night

Advice and policies on buying, using and disposing of IT equipment to reduce carbon emissions and landfill use

‘Switch off!’ stickers and posters and encouraging feedback from employees so everyone is involved

What are Computacenter doing to make a difference?

Computacenter will offset carbon emissions generated by their operations for any PC bought through the advisory service

They will also use delivery vehicles that use bio diesel for a ‘carbon neutral’ delivery
