Starbucks ‘wasting’ 23 million litres of water a day

UK tabloid and white van man’s favourite read, The Sun, has accused over-priced latte purveyor Starbucks of being a very naughty corporation.

An investigation by the paper found Starbucks has been leaving a tap running non-stop at its 10,000 outlets, wasting 23.4 million litres of water a day.

The Sun report, described in typical Sun fashion as ‘The Great Drain Robbery’, said:

“Every Starbucks branch has a cold tap behind the counter providing water for a sink called a dipper well, which is used for washing spoons and utensils.”

Starbucks claims the constant flow of water is needed to stop germs breeding in the taps because of health and safety rules.

Environmental groups have, naturally, gone potty about the revelation but Starbucks has since issued a statement saying it is looking at alternatives that will allow it to switch the tap off.
