BP, RGE announce mega-solar plant in Germany

RGE Energy AG is partnering with BP Solar to plan one of the world’s largest solar projects: a 46-megawatt peak installation to be built in Koethen, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.
BP Solar will supply around 210,000 crystalline photovoltaic modules for the facility, and RGE Energy will install the modules.
Reyad Fezzani, CEO of BP Solar, and Elias Issa, CEO of RGE Energy AG, announced the news in Munich at the “Intersolar” exhibition.
The Koethen project, currently in the approval stage, is expected to be launched in the third quarter of this year. All the modules are set to be installed by years’ end.
Once completed, the system will produce enough electricity to power about 11,500 homes and reduce carbon emissions by some 25,600 tonnes, according to BP Solar.
In addition to Koethen, BP Solar and RGE Energy are also planning a 15-megawatt solar system at Eberswalde airport and an option for another project producing 15 megawatts of energy.
BP Solar is offering RGE Energy a guarantee on yield for the solar modules it supplies. Until now, such guarantees had been reserved for turn-key projects developed by BP Solar. If the system does not deliver the overall energy yields guaranteed by BP Solar, BP Solar will cover the difference on the basis of the currently valid feed-in tariff.
