The global commitment to carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies remains strong, according to “The Global Status of CCS: 2010″ report released by the Global CCS Institute today.

The report identifies 234 active or planned CCS projects ranging across technologies, project types and sectors at the end of 2010, a net increase of 21 projects since the previous year. Seventy-seven are fully integrated, large-scale projects demonstrating the full CCS value chain.

“In addition to this project activity governments continued to pursue the development of policy, regulatory and legal frameworks to support CCS projects,” said John Hartwell, the institute’s interim CEO. “Looking ahead, the institute anticipates that during 2011 a number of projects will have completed concept definition studies and be in a position to move to the next stage of development.”
