- Iberdrola has launched a new campaign directed at domestic clients with over 10 kilowatts of capacity contracted and who are under an off-peak rates regime. The initiative includes a 12-per cent discount for electricity supplied during off-peak hours (night-time) in 2009;
- The FLSmidth Roadrunners eco-vehicles team at the Technical University of Denmark recently brought home two first places and a new world record at the unofficial world championships in fuel economy, the Shell Eco-marathon;
- The new Mercedes-Benz Citaro FuelCELL Hybrid city bus marks its world premiere this week at the UITP World Congress and Mobility & City Transport Exhibition in Vienna;
- Good Energy Group’s online retail service, Good Energy Shop, recently won the Best Online Retail Initiative at the Observer Ethical Awards;
- Local residents are being invited to learn more about E.ON’s plans to build a biomass-fired plant in the Royal Portbury Docks at three public exhibitions on 17, 18 and 19 June;
- Ponthafren Community Resource Centre in Newtown, Powys, has been awarded £4,942 by ScottishPower’s Green Energy Trust to install an array of photovoltaic cells to the roof of the building in a bid to reduce its carbon footprint;
- RS Components has expanded its range of displays from the world’s leading OLED manufacturers, including 4D Systems, Bolymin, CMEL, Powertip and Univision. The company now offers 67 different active and passive matrix OLED displays;
- The UK’s Renewable Fuels Agency has published its eleventh monthly report on the supply of biofuels under the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation;
- Oerlikon Solar has been named winner of the 2009 CELL AWARD, presented at the Intersolar 2009 Conference in Munich;
- Statoil in Denmark and Inbicon — DONG Energy’s technology company that develops technology in order to produce bioethanol — have signed a sales contract for the delivery of second-generation bioethanol to Statoil. Under the contract, Statoil will purchase the first five million litres of Inbicon’s bioethanol.
