Constellation app delivers more energy data to businesses

Published Thursday, 15th September 2011

Constellation Energy’s latest version of its online energy management application for commercial customers is also available as an app for the iPhone and iPad.

VirtuWatt 3.0 provides commercial customers with minute-to-minute meter telemetry, real-time pricing information, marketplace bidding capabilities and automated energy reduction strategies. It also lets users track electricity consumption data by type of use (A/C, lighting, etc.) or by facility location.

“Technology is rapidly changing the way we manage our energy use,” said Peter Kelly-Detwiler, senior vice president of load response for Constellation Energy. “Access to real-time pricing combined with automation has enabled customers to be much more strategic about how and when they use electricity.”

Kelly-Detwiler said the updated app lets customers track their usage not just at the facility level, but enterprise-wide as well, and helps them develop energy management strategies based on their own price or usage specifications.

Constellation Energy currently manages more than 1,500 megawatts (MW) of load response for commercial and industrial customers across the Northeast US, California and Ontario.
