GE Energy gets smart with Kelman buy

What’s smarter than a roomful of Mensa members doing a super hard sudoku with one hand and getting a triple word score in Scrabble with the other and then working out the 23rd digit of pi at the same time? A smart grid.
What’s smarter than a smart grid doing a super hard sudoku with one hand and getting a triple word score in Scrabble with the other and then working out the 23rd digit of pi at the same time? GE Energy, because it’s bought itself a smart grid company and all the smart grid it can eat.
GE Energy’s latest bit of shopping is Kelman Limited, hailing from Northern Ireland which sells and monitors diagnostics technologies for transformers. Alas, not that kind. How good woudl that be? Monitoring Optimus Prime?
But Greenbang digresses. No word on how much the acquisition costs, but GE says it will fit snugly into its existing smart grid products.
As well as the the usual capacity to tell consumers where they’re using their electricity and how to stop wasting it, they also do gas measurement technology, and grid intelligence to “help utilities optimise their operations and extend the life of their equipment”.
Being the eco-conscious sorts they are (and probably because the WEEE directive means they have to) the company also takes back and recycles all the kit it sells – nice touch.
