By Greenbang on Tuesday, 3rd March 2009

sunset-blvdLos Angeles, San Francisco and Houston are the top three cities in the US when it comes to number of energy-efficient buildings, according to news from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The EPA today released a list of the top 25 cities in the nation that in 2008 had the most buildings holding the EPA’s Energy Star rating for efficiency.

“Energy Star buildings typically use 35 percent less energy and emit 35 percent less greenhouse gases than average buildings,” said Lisa P. Jackson, EPA Administrator. “EPA commends all of these cities and all of the others, as well as countless individuals, who are now using more energy efficient appliances and dwellings. They are saving energy, saving money and protecting our environment.”

Other cities named to the list are, in descending order: Washington, DC; Dallas-Fort Worth; Chicago; Denver; Minneapolis-St. Paul; Atlanta; Seattle; Boston; New York; Austin; Detroit; Milwaukee; San Antonio; Philadelphia; Charlotte; Portland, Oregon; Grand Rapids; Sacramento; Phoenix; Miami; Riverside, California; and Madison, Wisconsin.
