Maker of SolarWindow teams with national energy lab

As part of its efforts to advance the commercial development of its energy-generating glass, Maryland-based New Energy Technologies Inc. has entered into a cooperative research and development agreement with the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
The company’s SolarWindow is see-through glass that can generate electricity from sunlight. The NREL is one of the world’s most respected and advanced solar-photovoltaic research institutions.
Under terms of the agreement, NREL researchers will make use of the company’s exclusive intellectual property and NREL’s background intellectual property to work to:
- Further bolster SolarWindow’s efficiency and transparency;
- Boost electrical power (current and voltage) output;
- Optimise the application of the active layer coatings that make it possible for SolarWindow to generate electricity on glass surfaces;
- Increase the size of the active layer in SolarWindow, key to increasing the size of the final commercial product; and
- Develop improved electricity-generating coatings by enhancing performance, processing, reliability, and durability.
