Mobile recycling nets points, pounds for charities

Published Tuesday, 26th May 2009

cell-phoneBoots UK says it’s given out 45 million Advantage Card points to its customers through its Recycling Appeal programme, run in conjunction with Redeem Plc.

Launched last June, the programme encourages customers to recycle old mobile phones and inkjets cartridges with the opportunity to earn up to 5,000 Advantage Card points.

Freepost envelopes for recycling are available in Boots stores. The company is also offering customers the chance to earn an additional 200 Advantage Card points for every order returned up until 19 June; the offer is limited to all listed mobile phones worth 300 points or more.

“Customers have shown unprecedented support for this campaign, which is great news as it not only benefits our customers, but also raises money for our two very worthwhile charities and we hope it continues to be a success,” said Robert Pearson of Boots UK.

The campaign has raised funds for Breast Cancer Care and The Eve Appeal. For every qualifying mobile phone handed in, Boots UK donated £1 to charity with an additional 28 per cent being generated from Gift Aid. Around £60,000 has been raised for charity so far and this amount is continuing to grow.
