New European alliance seeks sustainable energy innovations

By Greenbang on Wednesday, 18th November 2009

TU GrazA new European alliance focused on sustainable energy is set to launch tomorrow at Austria’s Graz University of Technology.

The “European Sustainable Energy Innovation Alliance” (ESEIA) aims to create innovations for sustainable technologies, establish an interdisciplinary panel of experts, and strengthen measures for further and continuing education.

“If you want to bring something about successfully, all the available knowledge of new energy technologies and concepts must be bundled, expanded and directed, and an entrepreneurial approach to the topic of sustainability promoted,” said Hans Sünkel, rector of Graz University of Technology, who has been nominated for the presidency of ESEIA.

Some 70 innovation partners from 23 nations are participating in the alliance’s launch phase, with representatives from a range of disciplines: everything from engineering and wind-turbine manufacturing to political science and business.

“Through ESEIA, we want to take on an exemplary pioneer role in the field of sustainable energy in Europe — in teaching, research and industry,” said initiator Brigitte Hasewend.

The ESEIA could eventually be integrated as a strategic partner in the “eCANDO” project, which aims to promote an entrepreneurial approach to sustainable energy, to bundle and expand, and to intentionally optimise the flow of knowledge where jobs and economic growth are created in harmony with nature.
