GE Energy has opened a new Technology Centre in Belfort, France, that will focus on finding advanced ways to help customers address environmental and energy challenges.

The new centre in Belfort, which has been the company’s European headquarters for the past 10 years, will house up to 400 engineers from 15 different countries. The 12,000-square-metre facility is set to be fully operational by September and represents a joint investment by GE Energy and Sempat (Société patrimoniale du Territoire de Belfort) of about €25 million.

“We are opening our new Technology Centre at a time when most of the world is discussing energy and environmental challenges such as growing demand, the effects of climate change and the need to reduce energy production costs,” said Ricardo Cordoba, GE Energy’s president for Western Europe and Northern Africa. “The future lies in the development of the most advanced, most effective and cleaner technologies and that will be part of the mission of our new center.”

The new facility is dedicated to the management of customer projects worldwide, as well as ongoing research and development for existing gas turbine technologies.
