• Britons will need to reduce their electricity consumption because the nation is facing a future gap between available energy supply and demand, The Register reports;
• SunPower Corporation is seeking $75 million in funding to help it expand its photovoltaics plant in the Philippines;
• The former CEO of Ausra has founded a new firm – Chromasun — that will market a solar light- and heat-powered device that can run an air-conditioner;
• IBM and the Marine Insitute Ireland have completed deployment of a SmartBay system to monitor environmental conditions in and around Galway Bay;
• Delphi Corporation and the Rochester Institute of Technology will receive $2.4 million in federal funding to promote the development of solid oxide fuel cells;
• Government agencies and businesses in Amsterdam expect to spend $1 billion over the next three years to make the city “smart” in energy consumption and delivery;
• Danish firm A.P. Moller-Maersk says it’s investigating ways in which carbon dioxide might be shipped — rather than piped — to offshore storage sites under the ocean;
• California’s Pacific Gas & Electric this week says it’s begun accepting bids for a 2-megawatt solar development expected to be completed later this year.
