Palm Beach looks for 95MW of energy … in trash

The Palm Beach County Solid Waste Authority has awarded a $668 million contract for engineering, procurement and construction services for its new state-of-the-art waste-to-energy facility.
The contract has gone to a consortium that includes KBR subsidiary BE&K Construction Company LLC and a subsidiary of The Babcock & Wilcox Company.
The facility will feature three new mass burn boilers capable of handling up to 3,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day and generating up to 95 gross megawatts of electricity. Work on the project is expected to begin in May of this year.
