Smart Meter Outlook 2020

In August 2010, Greenbang Research published a new report entitled, “Europe’s smart meter outlook for 2020: A market worth $25 billion”. The report is the first of its kind to evaluate the true potential of the European smart meter market.

With mandates in place for smart meter rollouts across the European Union, the market has significant prospects for growth if government goals are to be met. Greenbang Research forecasts that will require deploying between 133 million to 145 million new smart meters by 2020, which equates to a total market of $24 billion to $26 billion.

However, this growth can only truly be realised through effective public/private sector engagement and the development of a common set of smart meter standards.
