Leicester Square will host this Sunday’s premiere of “The Age of Stupid,” a film set in a future world devastated by climate change and starring Oscar-nominated actor Pete Postlethwaite.

Vue Cinemas said the event will be part of the “world’s largest-ever film premiere,” in which its cinemas across the country will all participate in a live satellite link broadcasting the film.

Set in the year 2055, “The Age of Stupid” follows Pete Postlethwaite’s character — a man living alone — as he watches archived television footage from 2008 and asks the question, “Why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?”

Directed by Franny Armstrong (“McLibel”) and produced by Oscar-winning John Battsek (“One Day in September”), the £450,000 budget for the film was raised entirely by “crowd-funding.”

On Sunday’s 5:30 pm showing, “The Age of Stupid” will be shown in a solar cinema tent in Leicester Square. Postlethwaite will arrive at the premiere in a special solar car provided by Cambridge University’s Eco Racing Team, and other British talent will be joining him on the “green carpet.”

The event will also support “Not Stupid,” a climate change awareness campaign launched by Armstrong, the film’s director.

“The Age of Stupid” is set for nationwide release on 20 March.
