Siemens to build €700 million Dutch power plant

Siemens Energy has secured an order to build a €700 million combined-cycle power plant for the Dutch utility Enecogen.
The plant, which will have a capacity of about 870 megawatts, is scheduled to go online in late 2011. Because of its low emissions and high operating efficiency, the facility will be one of Europe’s most efficient fossil-fuelled power plants, according to Siemens.
Enecogen is a partnership of the Dutch utility ENECO and the Danish utility DONG Energy.
In addition to the main components — gas turbine, steam turbine and generator — Siemens will supply the entire electrical, instrumentation and control systems, and will hand over the power plant as a turnkey installation. Siemens will also handle plant maintenance over the long term.
High-efficiency combined-cycle power plants are an important feature of Siemens environmental portfolio, which reported revenues of almost €19 billion in fiscal 2008.
