Sweet and clean: Honda unveils fuel-cell sports car
You won’t see Honda’s latest concept car on the road yet for a few years, but attendees at this week’s Los Angeles Auto Show got a glimpse of the auto-maker’s newest sweet clean ride.
The FC Sport is a hydrogen-powered three-seater with a sleek, lightweight body built for speed and performance. It employs the same V Flow fuel-cell technology that Honda already uses in its FCX Clarity sedan.
“The Honda FC Sport explores how to satisfy automotive performance enthusiasts in a world beyond petroleum,” said Dan Bonawitz, vice president of American Honda Motor Company Inc. “People who love sports cars will still have a reason to love in a hydrogen-powered future.”
The sharp-looking vehicle sports a glacier-white paint job that “conveys the FC Sport’s clean environmental aspirations while the dark wheels and deeply tinted glass provide a symbolic contrast befitting of the vehicle’s unique combination of clean power and high performance,” according to Honda. The company adds the car’s “organic, bio-structure theme” includes a body in which exterior panels will be made with plant-based bioplastics.
Bonawitz said during the FC Sport’s unveiling that the vehicle probably won’t go into production yet for several years. That will give all you speed-loving enviros time to save up, as Honda isn’t saying yet how much this green beauty might set you back.
