I’ve just stumbled across an incredible story about a 14-year old self-educated (his parents couldn’t afford school at the time) Malawian who built his own wind turbine from scratch after reading about it in a book. Now 19 years old, William Kamkamba’s become something of a sensation–and keeps his own “Malawi Windmill Blog“.

Or check out this great video of him at TED, being interviewed. It’s got some great moments, such as when he’s asked whether he exactly copied the windmill design from the book. “Ah no, I guessed,” he says. “The book had 3 blades, and mine had 4 … to increase power”.
