New record claimed in solar efficiency

solarPrinted electronics specialist Plextronics claims its broken the world record for the conversion of solar light to power efficiency with its new organic photovoltaic technology. Its 5.4% efficiency is obviously great, but shows the tremendous scope for potential gains in the field.

The really good news about gains like this, though, is the impact it can make on the relative cost of solar power. Its not there yet, but the firm reckons that this new technology can help it break the $1 per watt milestone. All power to them.

Earth2tech has an interesting post on the company, which gives more detail.
