There’s no messing with Ford. When the finance boys drop their wallet on their table, the aftershocks are felt in New Zealand.

And this time, their Richter scale registering spending is going on hydrogen. Ford and Daimler Chrysler are getting all cosy to create company who will be working on getting carbon tech out to the masses, all for the princely sum of $228 million.

The venture, under the could-be-sexier name of Automative Fuel Cell Cooperation, will be created by buying a stake in Ballard Power Systems and hopes to push the fuel cell car more towards the Aldi, less towards Marks and Spencers, scale of cheapness.
