Fuel-cell plane flies record distance
Okay, so it’s unmanned.
But according to the lads at the Register.com, Horizon Fuel Cells has made a small model plane fly a record distance with a fuel cell.
The Pterosaur plane flew 78 miles in California. The Register says:
Lots of UAVs have flown further than this, but Horizon claim it is a record for a “micro” UAV [unmanned aviation vehicle], which they define as one weighing less than 5kg.
That’s good compared to batteries, but pretty poor compared to conventional aviation fuels.
