Keep a credit database for polluters
CHINA WATCH Not long ago, Greenbang covered the news about China’s green initiative: China: no bank loans for polluters, but we were rather sceptical about how it would be implemented.
Well, although we remain doubtful about the real impact of this, it seems more has been done about this. A story notes that China has added the energy consumption and pollution records of over 12 million firms to a nationwide credit database, as part of a push for greener growth.
The bank has been adding the new data since the start of the year, and has already found 15,000 violations of national policy, it reckons.
It’ll be interesting to see how this develops. The real question is whether any action is taken on this…
