Major Chinese university teams with United Technologies Research

20071102182940en.jpgWe’ve just learned that United Technologies Corporation (UTC) has launched a partnership with Tsinghua University in China to research ways to design environmentally friendly buildings.

Greenbang has been to Tsinghua University in Beijing. Without a doubt, it’s one of the most important institutions the country has to offer.

You can see his reports from Tsinghua here.

It’s basically China’s equivalent to MIT or Cambridge University. They have brilliant links with industry and a business incubator project most start-ups in the UK would beg for.

Here’s what our insider tells us:

The United Technologies Research Centre based in Connecticut, USA and Tsinghua University in Beijing are participating in the five-year, £2.5 million project to establish better use of energy.

Research will include ways to establish better use of energy with advanced heating and cooling and could lead to construction of buildings that generate as much or more energy than used in heating, lighting and other applications.

UTC is well-qualified to research building design as several of UTC’s subsidiary business Units : Otis elevator, UTC Fire & Security and heating and ventilating manufacturer Carrier — have a stake in building design and construction. Tsinghua University  on the other hand will bring to the partnership its research into building sciences, network systems and public safety.
