SolFocus gets funding, launches into Europe

solarUS solar tech firm SolFocus seems to be doing well for itself. They tell us that they’ve just secured $52m in new funding (a good chunk of which is for Europe) and they’ve just opened their doors in sunny Madrid after snapping up Inspira, a local company that specialises in sun “trackers”.

The firm is a developer and manufacturer of solar energy kit, including concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) systems — which magnify the sun’s rays to get more efficiency out of solar panels. The target applications are large commercial solar installations or midsize power plants.

Spain seems to be popular (well, it sure is sunny) for solar firms. UK solar provider SolarCenturymakers of the complete solar roof – recently expanded there too, after also securing additional funding. TreeHugger has the details.
