Toyota Prius sells 1m
Now then – there’s a lot of talk about how the Prius (Toyota’s fuel-and-battery-hybrid car) is way ahead in the green game.
True – it’s free to drive around old London town as it’s exempt from the congestion charge (even though it still causes the same amount of congestion any other car its size does), but how environmentally friendly is it? It still needs charging and carries some very heavy batteries.
But rival motor firms are going in the same direction, with GM promising to allow the need to be green to lead development of future products.
Sci-tech-today.com has the full story:
“A decade after the first Prius went on sale, Toyota’s global sales of hybrid vehicles have hit a landmark 1 million, underlining the Japanese automaker’s lead in “green” technology that has changed the face of the auto industry.
Toyota Motor Corp.’s cumulative sales of gas-and-electric-powered vehicles totaled 1.047 million as of the end of May. Of those, nearly 345,000 hybrids were sold in Japan, while 702,000 were sold abroad, the company said in a statement Thursday.”
